| Short biography | Ro Tucker is the clinical director and owner of Metro Area Advanced Practice Healthcare, an independent gynecology and family planning practice in Kensington, MD, serving patients in the DC metro area and via telehealth across 12+ states. Ro's pelvic pain practice focuses on workup and medical management of pain conditions that are routinely under-recognized in general gynecology: chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, vestibulodynia, dyspareunia, endometriosis-associated pain, uterine fibroids, and pain related to menstrual disorders. They perform bedside pelvic floor assessment and coordinate care with pelvic floor physical therapy, urogynecology, pain management, and behavioral health as indicated, with the goal of getting patients to the right multidisciplinary team rather than cycling through single-provider trials. A meaningful portion of the practice is patients who have been dismissed, undertreated, or actively harmed by prior medical care — survivors of sexual, medical, and obstetric trauma; queer and trans patients; fat patients; and patients who have been told their pain is normal, anxiety, or imagined. Many arrive after years of trying to be seen elsewhere. Care is trauma-informed and HAES-aligned. Pelvic exams are negotiated and consented step-by-step. For patients whose pain history makes standard pelvic exams difficult or impossible elsewhere, the practice offers real comfort options including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation, cervical blocks, and TENS — available during exams, IUD insertions and removals, and other in-office gynecologic procedures. Ro completed graduate training at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with focused coursework on the role of trauma in gynecologic and reproductive health, and continuing education through ACOG and ACNM in trauma-informed pelvic care. The practice is queer and veteran owned. Ro sees patients in person in Kensington and via telehealth in MD, VA, DC, ME, DE, MA, NY, CT, WA, OR, IL, and NM. |
